More About Christian
Christian started his career long before he started bottling wines under his own label. He experimented with different techniques, methods and vessels, some time before the ’natural movement’ was widely established in Austria.
His vineyards can be found on the shores of Lake Neusiedl in Burgenland, some of which have been in his family for over four generations. Cristian nurtures the soil and vines, resulting in unique and exciting wines. Every year he and his father cover the soil with straw and compost to protect it from the heat and keep the vineyards moist and balanced.
Christian grows a vast number of indigenous grapes and some old-vine varieties, which are his personal favourites. Each of his wines is produced with the least intervention possible; the grapes are harvested by hand when they are at their prime and then crushed using a vertical press (the only technical tool he uses), which imitates the pressure of a handshake. This method means that only the brightest and purest juice is used.
